Giant Strides
I loved science at school - and still do albeit my career took a different path. Scientists are always on a quest, - to solve a problem, or answer a long pondered question or riddle.
Problem solving requires creativity and it's no fluke that these interests often go hand in hand. Many a crafter or creative person instinctively taps into their need to create beauty, or have an appreciation of the beauty in creation.
I spent a lot of time today reading up on this celebrated and revered scientist - Stephen Hawking was a good custodian of his gift of creativity, determination and skill to search for answers in his field of interest, and despite his obvious physical limitations, said his mind was unfettered. I do hope that somewhere in the cosmos his quest continues...even though he had very serious doubts that there was any life beyond our physical being.
To quote him - “If we do discover a complete theory, it should in time be understandable in broad principle by everyone, not just a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists, and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of the question of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason—for then we would know the mind of God.”
